Young Gums
Healthy gums
Healthy gums are so important for a healthy mouth — so we need to pay as much attention
to them as we do to our teeth.
If plaque isn't removed from the gum line by regular brushing, it can form a solid
layer on the teeth called tartar. Tartar is too hard to remove with a toothbrush,
so the dentist or hygienist needs to remove it with a process called scaling.
Gums with gingivitis
It's also important to keep plaque under control because if left, it can make your
children's gums swollen, so they bleed when touched. This is the start of gingivitis
— otherwise known as gum disease. This is fairly common though, and improved brushing
and regular cleaning by your dentist and hygienist should solve the problem. If
you think your children might have gum disease, it's best to take them to the dentist.
